On that subject, do you have issues with some garage cars changing to the Dallara F3 when you enter the my team menu? I haven't figured out why they do that - it's not just DLC cars (or indeed all of them), but default ones like the BMW touring car do it as well.Īlso, If I try to include all the GT1 and GT2 DLC cars in LeMans, the 575 shows up as '', and the others either make the race crash or no AI appear. It's such a wonderful game that still holds up today, and even better for those mods, even if the menus sometimes can't cope with them. May I add something to your list? Changing the controller type of the xbox controller to 'wheel' turns off the annoying speed sensitive steering that stops GT1 and LMP cars from being able to turn properly.

I've basically done the same as you in terms of modding it/adding DLC, except I can't quite remember which mods I have installed, so it's a bit of a mess in some ways.

There is no reference to repair of any kind in the language file, so my suspicion is that it has been completely removed.) Doing so will leave you with permanent cosmetic damage to every car both in the menus and in all subsequent races forever, as there is no in-game way to repair them. It can be 're-awakened' for all cars in the retail game by increasing the limit of 'max_maintained_dents' in the database file beyond '1'. In fact, the persistent cosmetic damage system is still present and running as a part of the game. You would assume that the final game would respect the lack of this feature by automatically resetting your car's damage upon loading a race, but this is not the case. The car damage would be retained between races unless you repaired it. Now for the interesting part - something I have found in the files but have seen nobody else talk about:Īt one point, a damage repair mechanic may have been planned to be included. It seems to be impossible to destroy long lines of tyrewalls, as they will regenerate when you're not looking if too many physics enabled tyres are dislodged. There is a repair timings file that contains the line 'This is the minimum condition under which the exhaust is still allowable on the race track.', which I thought was unique, but it turns out that this file complete with that line is also present in Dirt! *One could also at one point disable race music only without resorting to file mods, as indicated by keys/strings for race and menu music toggles in the language file.

In the final game, it is a save-wide setting in the options menu, with 'realistic' being changed to 'all'.

The game runs on the EGO engine and is only the second to do so, so there are lots of leftovers from Colin Mcrae Dirt, such as grip definitions for all the rally surfaces, and text relating to the rain system (I will try to enable rain - but the textures are missing and I'm not certain the code is there).Īt one point damage was part of the pre-race difficulty settings, as it was in Dirt, with 'realistic' damage offering a reputation bonus.
